welcome

Hey there everyone! My name is Ocean and this is my personal site, Manhattan Love Song. I got the name for my site from a book I came across. Though I never had the chance to read the book, I completely fell in love with the title. I've created this site so that it could eventually turn into a web portfolio that I can present to colleges if I choose to peruse web design. I also have some little extra things on here like If you're wondering what a personal site is, or why I made one, click on the "about" link in the navigation. I hope you'll enjoy your stay here, and don't forget to link back!

i haven't worked in like, forever.. but this past week i've been working non-stop: three days waitressing at Mei for a total of 13 and a half hours and i babysat twice. I finally had some cash in my pocket.

now, what do i do with the money? after so many months of depriving myself of things i wanted, how was i going to blow off all the money i've earned?

Things I've Already Bought
Crochet hooks, 5 and 5.5 mm
White cotton thread
hemp thread
knitting needles 4.5 mm (in pink!!!!)
Lava cake and ice cream from Applebee's

Things I Want to/Will buy
Ukulele/mandolin heart heart heart
camera maybe?
a bed set for my new dorm!!

the biggest thing right now is weather i should get the mandolin or the uke. I personally fell in love with the mandolin after hearing Chris Thile's cover of the White Stripes' song "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" (listen to it here). I know, it sounds very "hick-ish" but there's something so comforting and uplifting about it. BUT the downside to it is that it looks VERY hard to learn... not to mention there arent a lot of good songs to play for it. I dont want the intro to the Goo Goo Dolls' Iris. I want an entire, legit song to play.

So basically the ukulele seems like the better choice now since it kinda sounds the same as the mandolin, only the uke has better and more songs written for it. eeh. i wish i could buy them both.

Anywayyyy, you know what i really want to do one day? play my guitar in the dark. I went to this one show once where the band played in total darkness, and while they played all of these images ran through my mind.. kinda like i "saw" the music they played. It was kinda cool how i noticed the little details in the songs just because it was dark and i couldnt see anything; kinda like it heightened all of the other senses. i think that if i played in the dark it would sound different. i dont know, its just a thought.

i have too much time to think. it's not doing me any justice.
